What is Melanotan-2?
Melanotan-2 (MT-2) is a synthetic analogue of alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH) that acts as a broad melanocortin receptor agonist. It binds to MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, and MC5R receptors, producing effects studied in skin pigmentation, sexual function, appetite regulation, and energy balance research. MT-2 originated from University of Arizona research in the 1980s as part of a program to develop photoprotective skin compounds.
VELTRIDE supplies Melanotan-2 10mg lyophilized powder at ≥98% HPLC-verified purity with Certificate of Analysis, shipped discreetly across Canada from West Kelowna, BC. MT-2 remains one of the most widely ordered research peptides in Canada for melanocortin receptor studies.
Research Highlights
- Activates MC1R — stimulates melanogenesis and skin pigmentation in vitro
- MC4R agonism — studied for appetite suppression and energy expenditure
- Sexual arousal effects studied via central MC3R/MC4R pathways
- Broader receptor profile than PT-141 — includes tanning and appetite endpoints
- Anti-inflammatory activity via MC1R on keratinocytes and melanocytes
- Half-life approximately 1-2 hours — standard for receptor binding studies
- Most studied melanocortin peptide for UV-independent tanning research
Melanotan-2 vs PT-141
Melanotan-2 has a broader receptor profile than its metabolite PT-141. MT-2 activates MC1R for tanning studies, plus MC3R/MC4R for sexual and appetite research. PT-141 is more CNS-selective with less tanning activity. Both are available from VELTRIDE Canada for comparative melanocortin research.
